James Newton Howard started his 3 Decades of Music for Hollywood tour today at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London. The sold out show combined specially rewritten suites from James’ long career as a film composer with film clips, stories and special guest performances. World renowned violinist James Ehnes joined Newton Howard on stage to perform The Gravel Road from The Village, while Howard’ daughter Anouk made a surprise appearance to sing The Hanging Tree from The Hunger Games.
The audience was ecstatic, their standing ovations begging Newton Howard to return to the stage for 3 separate encores. One reviewer wrote:
“James Newton Howard’s career retrospective is a reminder of why you love film music and the endless possibilities it presents. With excellent performers to do his soundtracks full justice, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so overcome by the beauty of live movie scores. By the end of the evening you’ve learned a lot about the man, his music, the industry and the power of an orchestra and choir. 10/10” – SciFiBulletin.com
